The Indiana Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps low-income individuals and families buy nutritious food. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of how to apply, the documents you'll need, and how long the process typically takes.

How to Apply for Indiana SNAP

You have several options to submit your application for SNAP benefits in Indiana:

  • Online (Recommended): The easiest method is to apply through the Indiana FSSA Benefits Portal. You can create an account, complete the application, and upload your documents directly.
  • In-Person: Visit a local Division of Family Resources (DFR) office to submit your application and documents.
  • By Phone: You can apply over the phone by calling the DFR Call Center at 1-800-403-0864.
  • By Mail/Fax: Download the application form and send it to your local DFR office via mail or fax.

Gathering these documents beforehand will help expedite your application process:

  • Social Security Numbers (SSN): For yourself and all household members.
  • Proof of Residency: A lease agreement, utility bill, or piece of mail showing your address.
